The Caruso Watt Aquatics Center at Brentwood School features a dramatic wooden colonnade along its south eastern façade. Composed of a series of broad columns supporting a light overhead trellis, this feature acts as an architectural curtain, modulating the space between the new building and the swimming pool and providing shelter from the afternoon sun.
To test our predictions about shadow patterns the new colonnade would produce, we recorded the actual shadow movements using time-lapse photography. Then we composed this 30-second video loop showing how the shadows play through the colonnade over a typical summer afternoon.
